Led by Michael J. Fagel, Ph.D., Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Aurora Safety enhances and supplies workplace safety plans, training and audits; provides expert testimony for safety-related court cases; and delivers keynote addresses on vital safety topics.
With us as your accessible advisory partners, you gain the knowledge and procedures to promote a culture of safety and help prevent losses and accidents.
Mike’s career includes deployments for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), law enforcement, emergency medical services, fire rescue and emergency management, and compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA). He has further served as an elected public-safety official.
He joined the safety profession when OSHA was still in its infancy. Growing in experience as it grew, he formed a full perspective of how the agency influences both small and large businesses. He has both helped OSHA develop regulations and defended companies from strict statutes by educating them about the OSHA system and the safety field.
Always one to connect and communicate with people, Mike teaches graduate programs in public policy focused on anti-terrorism, critical infrastructure and homeland security at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Northern Illinois University and Aurora (Illinois) University.
He has worked as an instructor in homeland security and training.
- Argonne National Laboratory (U.S. Department of Energy) 2003 – 2019
- Idaho National Laboratory 2022-Present
- Instructor, NCBRT 2002 to 2022
Mike is also the author of five books on safety and a contributor to 10 other books. His third book, Crisis Management and Emergency Planning: Preparing for Today’s Challenges, won ASIS International’s Security Book of the Year Award in 2014.
